Welcome to the Streets
STREETS is a Multi sports programme for young people aged 11-18 years of age from schools, colleges and community centres throughout the borough within which they live.
STREETS stands for Sports to radically encourage everyone to succeed. The whole aim of the programme is designed to engage with young people who are classed as being vulnerable and at risk. They will take part in a recognised sport of their choice which enables them to develop vital sports and social skills and to understand the value of team work and respect for themselves and others.
• Making a positive contribution to society • Importance of education • Apprenticeships
• Economic awareness • Entrepreneurship • Sustainable Development • Community Cohesion
As we all know sport is a universal language which can help engage with people from diverse social backgrounds and promote responsibility, teamwork, creativity and self awareness to name but a few.
Creating cohesion in the community and bringing back a sense
of community spirit is a vital driving force of STREETS.
We believe that individuals need to take ownership of their own
town and neighbourhood and to have an outlet for young people
and
families to exercise and socialise within a safe environment.
It is our aim to work in partnership with schools and communities throughout the borough of Blackburn with Darwen.
As parents and carers of young people, we have a social responsibility to help them to become responsible citizens and to participate effectively within society.
STREETS is going to provide the opportunity for the young people of Blackburn with Darwen to show confidence in themselves and for the contribution that they have made in their community through the enjoyment and challenge of sport.
